Xifaxan Price Increase

Salix Pharmaceuticals in February 2016 has increased their price to $2,200 (a ~10% increase) for a typical 30 day supply.

Medication can be used for IBS or Cirrhosis of the liver.

Alternatives to this medication include:

 - For Cirrhosis - Have to Lactulose and / or Negram (or in combination) prior to moving to Xifaxan

 - If using for IBS there are a host of less expensive alternatives.

Recently - you have probably seen the commericals pushing using the medication for IBS.  Please limit usage of this drug for IBS at your facility.

There have been multiple drug price increases lately - Lets work together to conserve costs.

Thank you.
