25% Reduction in Unnecessary Antipsychotic Medication in Nursing Homes is Goal for 2015

The National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care announced that it met its initial goal of reducing the national prevalence of antipsychotic use in long-term care residents by 15.1%. It also announced a new goal of a 25% reduction by the end of 2015.

Elderly people with dementia have a higher risk of complications from antipsychotics which results in higher healthcare costs and a lower quality of life.
