Please Change Out All Vicodin Orders By March 1st 2014

The FDA is limiting the strength of acetaminophen (APAP) contained in prescription drug products to 325mg per dosage unit.

The FDA believes that limiting the amount of acetaminophen per dosage unit may reduce the risk of severe liver injury from overdosing.

Beginning March 1, 2014 Medi-Cal will no longer cover prescription medication combination products containing greater than 325mg of acetaminophen.

Please work with your pharmacist consultant and doctors to change all scripts for Vicodin (hydrocodone/APAP 5/500mg) to an equivalent substitute by March 1st 2014.
